This Is My Story
Monea Brown, Professional Vocalist, is a native of Oklahoma City, OK. She received her bachelor's in Vocal Performance at Lane College, where she studied with Professor Alexis Rainbow. She also studied Vocal Jazz with Joan Faulkner of Frankfurt, Germany.
Before attending Lane College, Monea performed in the African American Arts Institute S.O.U.L summer program at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She sang the National anthem at the NBA Oklahoma City Thunder Game in Oklahoma. She also serviced as a Page for State Representative, Mike Shelton at the Oklahoma State Capital.
In her undergrad, She was an active member of the Lane College “Final Authority” Choral Program. She was a member of Jennie E. Lane Ensemble, the Lane College Jazz Singers, LC Praise, Bel Canto, Concert Choir, and Lane College Showcase Singers. She served as an Alto Section Leader in the Lane College Concert Choir.
For classical, she performed at the TSU, Fisk U.,& Lane College Master Class with the legendary Soprano Laquita Mitchell at the TSU Performing Arts Center, located in Nashville, Tennessee. Monea sang in the Master Class for Collaborators with Clinician, Dianna White Gould at Lane College. She performed in a Master Class with Dashon Burton, and a Master Class with Indira Mahajan in the CAAPA Virtual Masterclass Series: Lane College.
She served as a Junior Artist for the Opera Memphis Company, located in Memphis, TN. Monea was also a member of the National 105 HBCU Choir.
For jazz and contemporary, she was a Jazz Soloist on “Do Nothin Till’ You Hear from Me” by Duke Ellington, with the Jackson Symphony Youth Orchestra,. She performed “The Boy from Ipanema” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, at the Lane College Jazz Festival Master Class with Gustave Csik and Joan Faulkner of Frankfurt, Germany. She performed "At Last" by Etta James at the Contemporary Music Symposium with Grammy-award winning Commodores’ music director and lead keyboardist Mr. Thomas J. Dawson, Jr Mr. John Paul Redmon recording artist, and Mr. David Brewer, CEO of Brewer International, Inc.
She was the National winner of the 2017 NCAA’s College Baseball World Series Competition to become the soloist to sing the National Anthem at the 2017 NCAA’s College Baseball World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. She also was the National winner of the NASCAR Vocal Competition to become the soloist to sing “God Bless America “ at the National NASCAR Final Championship Race 2021 In Phoenix, Arizona.
She was crowned as Miss Madison County at the Miss Madison County/Jackson Pageant. Later, she competed in the Miss Tennessee Pageant.
This year, Monea Brown graduated with her Master's Degree in Vocal Performance from John Hopkins Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland . She studied with the Chair of the Voice Department, Elizabeth Futral.
Monea has performed for the Chapter of the Links Inc. Sorority, John Hopkins University, John Hopkins Hospital, Peabody Institute, Carter Memorial Church, St Peter's Adult Learning Center, Faith Presbyterian Church, and more.
Monea Brown participated in the Lane College Graduate Assistantship Residency Program in the Lane College Music Department. She was responsible for performing as a Soloist with the Lane College Concert Choir, presenting a Masterclass, rehearsing the choir, delivering a solo at the campus church, St. Paul CME, and speaking to a panel of music students.
She performed at her Alma Mater with the Lane College Concert Choir as a special guest soloist for the Lane College's Gospel Brunch, St. Paul CME Church, and at the Lane College Founder's Day as the soloist with the LC Concert Choir who opened for Yolanda Adams and Donnie McClurkin.
Recently, she competed and won as a Silver Prize winner of the Amadeus International Music Awards from Salzburg, Austria.
